Values of Ecology
Many people on Ærø wish to look
after our beautiful nature, the environment, the ground water and
the sea of which we are a part.
In the association, Foreningen for
Økologi på Ærø, a group of active people is working for Ærø to
continue being a place where young families wish to live to give
their children the best conditions for growing up.
Renewable Energy
The target for Ærø is to be supplied
100% by renewable energy.
In 1997 Ærø participated in a
competition to become Denmark's official renewable energy island.
Ærø did not win the competition, nevertheless it was decided to set
a goal of becoming 80 - 100% supplied by renewable energy by
2008.
Today the island is considered one
of the leading renewable energy islands in the world. Therefore the
island has been admitted to the EU organisation of 100 societies
that work for 100% renewable energy.
